Gallery KOCHUKYO
Gallery Kochukyo was established in 1987 as the contemporary art department of Kochukyo, a gallery specializing in Asian antiques. It opened on the second floor of the Hakuyacho Building (designed by Yutaka Hirota) in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.
Since its foundation, the gallery has been committed to focusing on modern and contemporary craft-based artworks, including ceramics, metalwork, glass, and lacquer.
We have been devoted to presenting works of refined aesthetic quality and continually striving to introduce pieces that embody a high standard of beauty.
Through curated exhibitions and participation in art fairs, we have been committed to building close relationships with artists and developing exhibitions based on original thematic perspectives, while continuing to present a diverse range of projects.
“Hakuyacho” refers to the historical name of the area where the gallery is located, a name that was used until the end of the Edo period. As the cityscape of Nihonbashi continues to evolve, we remain committed to this historically rich location, sharing the enduring appeal of craft-based art that we believe should be passed on to future generations.
